Sep 2021. There are 2 main things to do at Katmai: see the bears and visit the Valley of Ten Thousand smokes, the site of a volcano that collapsed more than a hundred years ago. I arrived too late for the valley tour, but the bears were amazing. There were about 40 at the lower viewing bridges, and 14 at the waterfall.
